About this courseThis course is offered as a degree with foundation year – a four-year programme which provides an additional foundation year at the beginning of the degree, that will give you academic and practical experience, as well as the skills you need to ensure you are equipped to successfully complete your chosen degree.BSc Web Design and Development blends technical and creative skills to prepare you for a career in web development.You’ll be set authentic assessments, meaning that your projects, tasks and exercises will replicate the working world of web design, ensuring that you are fully prepared for life after graduation.Between Years 2 and 3, you can also opt for a professional placement year, meaning you can apply for a placement and gain valuable real-world experience in web design.
SkillsOur BSc Web Design and Development blends technical and creative skills into one package, teaching you software development and web design skills. In your first year, you will develop programming skills and the ability to work with existing data. Additionally, you will gain a critical understanding of digital media and skills in image editing and developing website prototypes. Throughout the degree, you will continue to hone software development and data analysis skills. You will also understand what makes a positive, engaging and impactful website or mobile app for users.After the first year, you can take optional modules based on your career ambitions, such as strategic digital communication, digital gaming, animation and creativity, project management and digital storytelling. You will also learn core cyber security skills related to organisational resilience.
Career opportunitiesWe embed employability in computing programmes throughout the curriculum, focusing on project-based assessments that simulate real-life scenarios. Our collaborative approach, team working modules, and Final Year Project demonstrate our project-based approach to learning. Our method prepares you to enter the software development or web/mobile design industries.
