This course gives you the ability to: 鈥� Delve into how bodily functions at a cellular, tissue and whole-body level change due to chronic diseases. 鈥� Consider how biomedicine assists with healthy ageing. 鈥� Explore the biology of common and rare genetic disorders and infectious diseases. You鈥檒l gain relevant real-world experience throughout this course. You鈥檒l be taught by leading doctoral-level academics through lectures, seminars, and sessions, which will be supplemented by putting your skills to the test in our specialist, 拢18.2 million facilities, including biological science labs. Following your first two years in the course, you鈥檒l have the opportunity to put your knowledge and skills to the test in an optional supervised work placement year. During this placement year, you鈥檒l: 鈥� Experience working in a real-world environment within the industry in the UK or internationally. 鈥� Explore employment opportunities within organisations related to your studies. 鈥� Network with potential employers and construct work experience profiles to prepare for a future biomedicine career. This course prepares you for a variety of potentially exciting careers in a range of fields in the industry, as well as for future study. You鈥檒l be able to work in clinical analysis, the NHS, medical research, medical genetics, pharmaceuticals and more.
Professional BodiesThis course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and accreditation is reviewed on a regular basis. As a student on this course, you鈥檒l be able to apply for undergraduate membership of the Biochemical Society and The Physiological Society (UK). You鈥檒l also be eligible for student affiliate membership of the Royal Society of Biology and upon successful graduation be eligible to apply for one year associate membership, this can help open up networks at a crucial time when applying for jobs.
